nearly all of the senators and congress have left washington dc. from all over the country, there were outpouring of condolences and sympathy and there were senators and congressmen who sent out statements calling for gun control. in some cases with no political decisions by many to politicize the tragedy. here are some of their names and what they said. congressman bobby rush said lawmakers can no longer be held hostage by those who are opposed to reasonable gun control laws. congressman eliot engel of new york, the fact that we cannot pass sensible gun control in this congress is a blot on her reputation. and congressmen jerry nadler saying that now is not the time to have a serious discussion about and control, if not now, when would it be? at least 20 members of congress reacting with calls to restrict constitutional rights to bear arms. all over those calls coming from members of the democratic party. here is the number who chose to talk about mental illness. the disaffection of the mentally disturbed and ill. the importance of a strong family

i came to the bay area in 2000 from the washington, dc area, i was hired in at lockheed martin in sunnyvale as a systems staff engineer to head a specific, be manager of a specific program, and i retired from lockheed martin 3 years ago. i think my major qualification is enthusiasm for walking in san francisco. it's a wonderful walking down, it has the potential of being really one of the great walking areas in the world. this enthusiasm has led me to notice there are issues with pedestrian safety and fortunately in this city where there are organizations covering just about everything that happens in the city, there are organizations associated with pedestrian safety, in particular in district 6 supervisor kim has an organization now run by sunny angelo on pedestrian safety and i have been attending those meetings and in fact have found them very interesting. when the mayor had the task force for pedestrian safety there was a subcommittee on data, the data subcommittee. i attended those meetings, they were very interesting. the question was, well, we have data, what do we do with the data,

but i wanted to take us off to washington, dc, now, senator daniel inouye who passed away days away is being honored on capitol hill and there is senator bob doles republican presidential candidate, as i am sure you know who has arrived with harry reid who is the majority leader, the senate majority leader and the two are to pay respects this afternoon to daniel inouye of hawaii. this has been going on for hours. they change the guard every half hour and notables come to pay their respects. senator inouye, of hawaii, first served us as a soldier in world war ii and was a senator, get this, for 50 years. inouye was a war hero. he lost his right arm while leading the platoon into battle in italy and awarded the medal of honor and died on monday of breathing complications at age of 88. he became hawaii's first congressman following statehood in 1969. he won election to the senate in 1962. only 31 people have laid in the cap doll rotunda and the last was gerald ford six years ago and the last senator honored was the democrat humphrey in 1978. he will be escorted to the washington cathedral
